Caprihans India's reverse gravure coating

Caprihans India has introduced yet another innovation in the field of blister packing of hygroscopic products. Caprihans is the market leader in India and has many firsts to its credit being the first company to introduce PVC film for blister packing in the Indian market; it was also the first to develop the PVDC coated film indigenously. Recently the company for the first time incorporated the latest Reverse Gravure coating process for PVDC coating, bringing the technology on par with the European standards.

The latest innovation in the form of structured PVDC coating takes the performance of PVDC coated barrier film to the next level

Structured PVDC Coated film has a certain roughness (structure) imparted to it which delivers a better processing performance on the thermoforming machine. The rough structure of the PVDC Coating prevents the film from sticking to the heating plate and the trapped air in the valley between the plate and the film helps the film to release easier. The critical issue in this case is that the structure has to be accurate enough as too rough a structure will not be eliminated by the heat and could cause some sealing problems whereas too shallow a structure would stick to the heating plate. The in house controls employed at Caprihans ensure that the structure is as accurate as possible.

The specifications and the properties remain the same. There is no change in the ingredients or the formulation or even the process of coating. The structure is imparted after the coating process is completed and hence does not in any way affect specifications or properties of the PVDC coated film. It only makes a slight change in the appearance of the film.

The structure does not in anyway affect the final product package as the structure is apparent on the film before the forming stage and it disappears while forming. In other words, the goal of the structure is to improve the performance while forming.

The performance of structured PVDC coated film has already been tested in export markets. Caprihans has already exported more than 800 MT of PVDC coated films in the structured format. All PVDC coated films from the INEOS Films (parent company of Caprihans) are also produced in the structured format only.
