Need for IT in Indian SCM highlighted

Safexpress recently sponsored the '2nd Logistics Colloquium 2008' held at Kolkata. The seminar was based on the theme of ‘Creating a Robust Supply Chain for Seamless Connectivity’. The seminar addressed topics like innovations, technological advances and capacity enhancement methods in the supply chain industry.

Speaking at the meet, Vineet Kanaujia, GM-Marketing, Safexpress, said, "Supply chain and logistics sector is an indispensable part of the Indian economy. Today, SCM and logistics account for 10 percent of India's GDP. The sector holds great promise for the future. However, one aspect that needs to be focused upon in the logistics sector is the implementation of new IT initiatives. Technological advancement is no more a want rather it is the need of the hour. It is a pre-requisite for taking the Indian supply chain sector to newer heights. Having a technological orientation from the very beginning, our organisation, has taken special initiatives to implement customer-friendly IT technologies in order to provide our clients with the best of services."

The logistics colloquium brought together, industry figures like Dr Chang-ho Kwag, Director, Posco Research Institute; Ronen Nag, Executive Director (Transport and Shipping), SAIL; O P Mishra, Chief Logistics, Tata Steel; Aman Khanna, KPMG Consulting; Atul Kulkarni, Senior Manager (Consulting), Deolitte; Venkata Krishna M Reddy Vice President-Supply Chain, Spencer Retail and many more.

The 2nd Logistics Colloquium started from where the 1st Logistics Colloquium left in 2007. By organising this conference CII has taken a step further in enlightening the industry on the issues pertaining to the logistics sector.
